Summer Game Fest 2024

Summer Game Fest has rapidly become one of the biggest gaming events of the year since its inception in 2020. Hosted by Geoff Keighley, it serves as a spiritual successor to E3 by providing a concentrated period for major game reveals, announcements, and hype-building from across the industry.

The centerpiece is the Summer Game Fest Live showcase on June 7th, which will be a marathon livestream featuring world premieres, gameplay trailers, and developer interviews for some of the biggest upcoming games. Major publishers like Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, Activision, EA, Ubisoft and more are expected to make splashy reveals during the show.

In addition to the main showcase, Summer Game Fest features several complementary events throughout the week. The Day of the Devs showcase on June 9th spotlights upcoming indie games with trailers and developer commentary. Publishers like Devolver Digital, Annapurna Interactive, and more host their own indie game spotlights as well.

There are also dedicated publisher showcases like the Ubisoft Forward event on June 10th, where they reveal the latest details on games like Assassin’s Creed Mirage and potentially tease new projects. Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase is expected to provide major updates on Starfield, Avowed, and the next Call of Duty game.

While primarily an online/streaming event, Summer Game Fest does feature some limited in-person components in Los Angeles. There is a physical “Game Oasis” venue for media previews of upcoming games as well as meet-and-greets and performances. The Game Oasis is open to the public through a lottery system.

Overall, Summer Game Fest has become the de facto E3 replacement as a concentrated period for the biggest gaming news, reveals, and hype-building from across the entire industry.
